Breaking down the different eras of Star Wars storytelling
This new Star Wars series spans books, comics, and novels. It's set 200 years before the Skywalker Saga, meaning Yoda would be but a mere several-hundred-year-old whippersnapper.
Pod races! Yoda with a lightsaber! Anakin's transformation from dinky kid to Darth Vader! This era covers both George Lucas' prequel trilogy and the underrated Clone Wars series.
This era takes place between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. Reign of the Empire covers our fave scruffy looking nerf-herder's origin story movie, and Disney+'s upcoming animated series.
The original and best era. Age of Rebellion ticks off Star Wars Rebels, Gareth Edwards' excellent Rogue One, and the effortlessly enduring appeal of the original trilogy. The Force will always be with this era.
Set between Return of the Jedi and Force Awakens, this era is currently only represented by Disney+'s universally acclaimed sci-fi series. Such is our love for all things Mando, we'd love to see more stories from this period.
Rounding off the official list of Star Wars eras is Rise of the First Order. It spans both 3D animated show Resistance, and Disney's recent Rey and Ren trilogy.
