A quick guide to Resident Evil Village

Prepare for a new breed of scares with Capcom's latest survival horror

Though it might not have an eight in the title, Village is most definitely Resident Evil 8. A direct follow-up to 2017's brilliant and brutal Resi 7, it looks like it could well be Capcom's scariest survival horror yet...

Village wraps up Resi 7's story

In an interview with Famitsu, Capcom's Tsuyoshi Kanda confirmed "Village is the sequel to Resident Evil 7, and serves as the conclusion to its story." Don't expect to see Ethan again after this.

It's another first-person shooter

Like Resident Evil 7, Village is played from a first-person perspective. While the third-person fright fests the Resi 2 and 3 remakes served up were great, we're ready to return to a more intimate (and terrifying) viewpoint.

You play as Ethan again

Resi 7's protagonist is back... as is his wife Mia. The Winters seem to have settled down in a remote European settlement, but happily ever after is definitely not on the horrifying cards.

Chris Redfield plays a big role

One of Resident Evil's most iconic heroes returns, though the former S.T.A.R.S. agent now looks more sinister than heroic. Whether he's good or bad, Redfield clearly has a bigger role than his brief cameo in Resi 7.

It looks to be influenced by European horror

Even though Capcom has only released one trailer, Village already reminds us of 2017's British horror film The Ritual. Like Resident Evil 4, Ethan's sequel appears to take place in rural Europe.

Werewolves make their Resi debut

There's a bad moon rising in Resi Village with werewolves showing up for the first time in the series. These lycanthropes look disturbingly human, too. Anyone got some silver bullets?
