Next-gen begins now... ish. The PS5 goes on sale Nov 12 in the US, Nov 19 in the UK, while the Xbox Series X launches worldwide on Nov 10.
Sony and Microsoft have been equally aggressive with pricing. The standard PS5 costs $499/£449.99, which is the same price as the Xbox Series X. The PS5 Digital Edition meanwhile, costs $399/£359.99.
Neither machine is what you'd call svelte. PS5 weighs 4.5kg; dimensions 390mm x 104mm x 260mm. Xbox Series X is slightly lighter at 4.45kg; dimensions 151mm x 151mm x 301mm.
The PS5's DualSense has haptic feedback and dynamic adapative triggers. The Series X controller is much like Xbox One's, though now it has a share button.
PS5 has Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, the Demon's Souls remake and Spider-Man: Miles Morales as early exclusives.
On Xbox, there's Halo Infinite and new Forza and Fable titles to look forward to.
PS+ subscribers get PlayStation Plus Collection at no extra cost when they buy a PS5. This service lets you download a variety of PS4 games, with around 20 titles already confirmed. Meanwhile, Series X has the excellent Game Pass for $9.99/£7.99 p/m, which lets you play all first-party Xbox games on day of release.
